Monday, September 11th is National Make Your Bed Day, and is a great reminder of the many benefits that making your bed has on your health and your sleep. The National Sleep Foundation states that sleeping in a well-made bed can help reduce the amount of restlessness at night, which can have a positive influence on your health. A poll taken by the foundation shows that over 75 percent of Americans are more excited to go to bed with fresh sheets, and those who make their bed every day are 19 percent more likely to get a good night’s sleep.
Starts A Productive Day
Making your bed every morning can actually improve your productivity throughout the day. Starting your day with the simple chore is actually correlated with productivity, a greater sense of well-being and even helps you stick to a budget. This is because making your bed is a “keystone habit,” which starts a pattern of good behavior. To get the most benefits out of making your bed, be sure to do it in the morning as soon as you get up. This way, you’ll be making better decisions for the rest of the day!
A Sense Of Pride
According to Navy Seal William H. McCraven’s 2014 commencement speech at the University of Texas, the best way to change the world is to start off by making your bed. He says that by making your bed first thing in the morning, you have accomplished the first task of the day. This will give you a small sense of pride, and encourage you to complete more and more tasks throughout the day.
Get A Better Night’s Sleep
There is nothing worse than coming home to a messy bedroom when all you want to do is crawl into bed and sleep. A messy bed only stresses you out more and drops your mental state even lower, as you may look at going to bed as more of a chore than a reward. Get yourself into a positive state of mind by having your bed already nicely made, just waiting for you to jump into and sleep soundly.
